Why do I get an upload error in my WordPress media library?

Updated October 10, 2026

Along with video playback acceleration, Swarmify also comes with the added benefit of video upload acceleration built right into our WordPress plugin.

What’s upload acceleration?

WordPress limits the size of files you can upload to the Media Library based on your server configuration. SmartVideo’s upload acceleration uploads in chunks, so you can put larger original video files in your Media Library than WordPress normally allows. SmartVideo then encodes the videos you embed at up to 1080p for desktop and mobile playback and delivers them from its own edge network.

How do I fix my Media Library upload problem?

Depending on your WordPress configuration, uploads may stall or fail. If this happens, try turning off upload acceleration.

In your WordPress dashboard:

Step 1: Open SmartVideo and select the Settings tab.

Step 2: Scroll down to the Advanced section.

Step 3: Turn off Upload acceleration. Settings save automatically.

With upload acceleration off, WordPress’s normal upload size limit applies again. For a larger file: if your plan includes the SmartVideo Library, upload the original there, copy the source URL or SmartVideo tag from the Library’s Media Details, and add it to your page as shown in How to upload a video with our WordPress plugin. Otherwise, you can store your original video with Dropbox, Amazon S3, or Wasabi. Follow the guide for your provider to set up file access and obtain a source URL SmartVideo can fetch.
