Why YouTube Isn’t Built for Sermon Archives

Ads Interrupt Your Message

YouTube serves pre-roll and mid-roll ads on embedded sermons, and you don’t control what they advertise. A visitor arriving to hear a sermon can be greeted by a gambling ad, a competing-faith promo, or worse — brand-defining damage on someone else’s schedule.

Suggested Videos Drift Away From Your Ministry

When a YouTube embed ends, the player fills the screen with algorithmic recommendations — often unrelated, off-doctrine, or outright inappropriate. A viewer who came for Sunday’s sermon leaves watching something you’d never have chosen for your congregation.

Storage and Bandwidth Caps on the Wrong Sunday

A sermon resonates, gets shared, and replay traffic spikes 10x on a Monday morning. Church-focused hosts cap storage and bandwidth tightly on their entry tiers — SermonCast Starter limits you to 200 GB of storage and 1 TB of data, and Vimeo Starter has a 2 TB lifetime storage cap and a shared 2 TB/month bandwidth threshold. A single viral sermon or a year of consistent recording can push you over the limit at the worst possible moment.

Built for Stewardship of the Message

Zero Ads, Ever

No pre-roll, no mid-roll, no ad overlays. SmartVideo is a paid hosting platform, not an ad-supported one — your sermon plays exactly as recorded.

No Suggested Videos, No Algorithmic Feed

When your sermon ends, the screen shows a replay control or your call to action — not a grid of other people’s videos. The next step is one you chose.

Your Church Branding, Not Ours

The SmartVideo player carries no third-party logo. Customize colors and controls to match your church’s website. No “YouTube” or “Vimeo” watermark on your ministry’s video.

Unlimited Bandwidth for Sunday Morning Spikes

Every SmartVideo plan includes unlimited bandwidth. When replays surge or a sermon catches and spreads, your videos keep streaming. No throttling, no overage email.

Designed for the Way Churches Actually Use Video

  • Sermon archive organization. Build a searchable library of every sermon, series, and Bible study. Tag by speaker, date, or series name.
  • Embed anywhere your website lives. Works in Squarespace, WordPress, Wix, Webflow, Subsplash, Tithely, Church Center, and any platform that accepts an embed code.
  • Mobile-friendly playback. Most parishioners watch on phones. SmartVideo’s adaptive streaming tunes quality to each viewer’s connection.
  • Captions for accessibility (and ADA). SmartVideo supports SRT/VTT caption files per sermon, referenced via the embed code and displayed in the player on desktop and mobile. Helps hearing-impaired members and supports your ADA posture. Bring your own caption files — SmartVideo doesn’t auto-generate them.
  • No algorithmic recommendation feed. Viewers see your library, your CTAs, your next steps. Period.

Right-Sized for Single-Campus and Multi-Campus Ministries

Single-campus church

Around 200 sermons in the archive, roughly 500 weekly viewers across Sunday replays and weekday Bible study. The Growth plan ($59/mo, 50K views) typically fits, with headroom for share spikes.

Multi-campus or regional ministry

1,000+ sermons, 5,000+ weekly viewers, midweek service replays. The Pro plan ($99/mo, 150K views) or Enterprise handles the volume, with unlimited bandwidth absorbing Monday-morning replay traffic and viral-sermon spikes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions? Get in touch or browse the help center.

Can I embed sermons in our Squarespace, WordPress, or Wix church website?

Yes. SmartVideo provides a standard embed code that works in Squarespace, WordPress, Wix, Webflow, Subsplash, Tithely, Church Center, and any platform that accepts an embed block. WordPress sites can also use the free SmartVideo plugin for a Gutenberg block. No coding required.

What about captions and accessibility?

Upload SRT or VTT caption files per sermon. Captions display in the player on desktop and mobile, support your ADA posture, and make sermons searchable by spoken content. Note: bring your own caption files — auto-generated captions are not currently included.

What happens when a sermon goes viral or Sunday replays spike?

Nothing breaks. Every plan includes unlimited bandwidth, so replay surges don’t trigger overages, throttling, or downtime. If you exceed your monthly view allocation, a small per-thousand overage rate applies — you’re never cut off mid-stream.

Can I move our existing sermon library over?

Yes. If your sermons live as Vimeo embeds, SmartVideo can auto-convert those once installed — the originals stay as fallback. YouTube and other native embeds are a manual swap: upload the source file to your SmartVideo library, copy the new embed code, and replace the old one page by page. Most churches start with their most-watched recent series first. White-glove migration help is available for larger archives.

What plan does a church our size need?

Plans are priced on monthly views, not library size — so a deep sermon archive doesn’t cost more to host. A single-campus church with a few hundred weekly viewers usually fits the Growth plan ($59/mo, 50,000 views), while a multi-campus or regional ministry with several thousand weekly viewers typically lands on Pro ($99/mo, 150,000 views). Every plan includes 1–5 TB of storage and unlimited bandwidth. See pricing for details.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every plan comes with a 14-day free trial. A credit card is required to start, but you are not charged until day 15 — cancel before the trial ends and you will not be charged.

Stewardship of the message

SmartVideo is on-demand sermon hosting — no ads, no suggested videos, no third-party logo on your ministry’s content. Drop the embed into your existing church website and your archive plays exactly the way you recorded it.
