Use an eligible account’s public Wasabi file URL as your SmartVideo source, or upload the original to the SmartVideo Library when public access is unavailable and your plan includes the Library. For a Wasabi source, the URL must return the video bytes to an anonymous HTTP GET, without a login or cookies. For a Library upload, use the source URL from its Media Details page in a SmartVideo tag or block. A Wasabi console page or an object path alone is not a video source URL.
Choose an access method
Wasabi’s public-access documentation limits self-service public access to certain paid accounts established before March 13, 2023; trial accounts are not eligible. Accounts created after that date cannot enable it through the Console or CLI. Contact Wasabi Support if you require public access.
Public file URL for an eligible account
Only use this path if public access is available to your Wasabi account. Making a file public lets anyone on the Internet read it; do not make sensitive videos public.
- Upload the video. In the Objects list, open the file’s Actions menu and select Make Public, then accept the warning. These are the current controls in Wasabi’s public-file instructions, not the old globe icon.
- Open the file’s details and copy its Link To File URL.
A bucket status of Default alone does not mean the file is public. Wasabi also documents Public Access Override, which can give anyone read access to the entire bucket, and public-access policies. Neither is a workaround for account eligibility. Making a folder public is a one-time operation; files uploaded later are private unless a policy grants access.
Public URL formats are https://<serviceURL>/<bucket>/<path/filename> or https://<bucket>.<serviceURL>/<path/filename>. Use the service URL for your bucket’s region. For example, a US East 1 file can use https://s3.us-east-1.wasabisys.com/my-bucket/videos/example.mp4. Prefer copying the console’s file URL over constructing it yourself.
SmartVideo Library when public access is unavailable
Download the original from Wasabi and upload it to the SmartVideo Library, if your plan includes the Library, then use the source URL provided there.
Console presigned URLs expire
Wasabi Console presigned URLs expire after at most 12 hours, or earlier when the session expires. A presigned URL works for the first conversion as long as it is still valid when SmartVideo fetches it. Once it expires, SmartVideo can no longer fall back to it or rebuild the video from it, so use a public file URL or the SmartVideo Library for ongoing use.
Add the URL to SmartVideo
- WordPress: With the SmartVideo plugin installed, paste the complete URL into the SmartVideo block’s Video URL field.
- Other platforms: Install the SmartVideo head snippet, then use the complete URL as the
srcin a SmartVideo tag.
No Wasabi CORS change is needed for SmartVideo’s server-side import or plain video playback without crossorigin. Before conversion finishes, the player can play directly from your original URL. If your SmartVideo tag includes a <track> element, SmartVideo sets crossorigin="anonymous", so that playback becomes a cross-origin request. The same applies if you set crossorigin="anonymous" yourself. Wasabi’s default CORS configuration allows these cross-origin GET requests from any website. If you saved a custom CORS configuration for the bucket, it replaces the default and must allow GET from your website.
Preview or publish the page to load the player. A video usually takes about as long as it runs to convert, and longer when our encoders are busy. Keep the original source accessible for future use.
If a Wasabi source does not work, test its public file URL in a private browser window. It must return the video, not a Wasabi console page or an access-denied response. For a Library upload, use the supplied source URL with the SmartVideo player; do not test a swarmify:// URL by opening it directly in a browser. Check that the public file remains readable. If you embedded a Console presigned URL, replace it with a stable source using one of the options above.
