What’s New in SmartVideo
We ship improvements every month—player, CDN, plugin, and dashboard. This is the running record of what’s changed and why it matters.
The New Video Player Is Out of Beta
The rebuilt player is now the default on every account. See what changed — a cleaner frame with frosted-glass controls, skip forward and back, keyboard shortcuts, Picture-in-Picture, a playback speed menu, and a captions menu. On phones you get bigger touch targets, double-tap to seek, and captions that stay clear of the control bar. Your colors, play button shape, and corner rounding are set in a new Configuration tab in the dashboard, with a live preview as you edit. Nothing to install — your existing embed code keeps working.
WordPress Plugin 2.4
The new player comes to WordPress, and it’s opt-in. Your site keeps playing on the classic player when you update, so nothing changes on update day. Switch whenever you’re ready under Player → Version in the SmartVideo settings, and the new appearance and playback settings start applying.
- New appearance controls: secondary color, glass tint, player corner radius, a separate play-button radius, and watermark opacity and position
- New playback controls: keyboard shortcuts with an adjustable seek step, optional Google Analytics playback events, and a lazy-load toggle
- Per-video call-to-action overlay with your own text and link, in the block editor and the [smartvideo] shortcode
- Native Breakdance element, joining Gutenberg, Elementor, Beaver Builder, Bricks, and Divi
- Fixes: the iFrame player setting now applies to Vimeo embeds, settings save after a section reset, SmartVideo elements no longer collapse on Bricks 2.x, and videos load on sites using WP-Optimize’s Delay JavaScript
WordPress Plugin 2.3
A video-SEO and security release, with the Divi 5 modules going live on the front end.
- VideoObject schema auto-fills description, thumbnail, duration, page URL, and publisher from content you already have — post excerpts, featured images, and Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO or SEOPress meta
- Divi 5 modules render on the live site, not just in the editor, and reserve a 16:9 ratio so the page doesn’t shift as video loads
- Redesigned classic-editor video dialog: live YouTube and Vimeo thumbnail preview, a poster-source dropdown, and fields pre-filled from your site defaults
- Security pass: chunked uploads accumulate in a private, server-only directory, REST settings writes are restricted to known keys, and input validation and output escaping were hardened throughout
- Follow-up releases through 2.3.3 fixed video sizing after the update, conditional loading switching itself on, and uploads on hosts that keep the plugin folder read-only
New Video Player (Beta)
We’re rolling out a rebuilt SmartVideo video player, now in beta. It keeps what matters—ad-free, white-label, and no suggested videos pulling viewers away—on a modernized foundation. The beta is opt-in while we refine it; your current player stays the default until the new one graduates to stable.
WordPress Plugin 2.2
A major plugin update adding native modules for Divi 5 and Bricks with live preview in each builder’s visual editor. Beaver Builder receives detection and conditional loading support. Conditional loading was rebuilt so the player script only loads on pages that actually have video — with per-builder content scanning for Elementor, Divi, Bricks, and Beaver Builder.
- Rebuilt admin settings with React — cleaner UI, reset buttons, dashboard video stats widget
- Gutenberg block: unified video URL field, legacy block auto-migration, per-page disable toggle
- JSON-LD VideoObject schema auto-generated on pages with SmartVideo (SEO)
- Responsive auto-converted Vimeo iframes scale properly at all widths
- XSS fixes across all builder render paths
- Fixed upload accelerator corrupting temp file paths during chunked uploads
New Help Center & In-App Support Beacon
Our support portal moved to a new Help Center with 90+ searchable help articles and an AI-powered search beacon embedded in the dashboard, blog, and marketing site. Search the help center or chat with our team.
Video Delete
You can now delete videos directly from your library. Select a video and remove it — no more emailing support to clean up old content.
Playback Reliability Fix & CDN Security Upgrade
Fixed a delivery issue that was causing occasional playback interruptions on some CDN servers. Also upgraded TLS certificates fleet-wide to ECC-only for stronger encryption and better security.
Improved Failed Payment Recovery
If a payment fails, we now retry 8 times over 21 days (previously 3 retries over 7 days) so a temporary card issue is less likely to interrupt your service.
Smarter Cancel Flow
If you start a cancellation, we now show a usage-based plan suggestion before you reach the final step — so you can right-size your plan instead of leaving entirely.
Annual Pricing Restructured
We replaced the previous 50%-off introductory discount with a permanent “two months free” annual discount (~16% savings per year), so you know what you’re paying at renewal. Predictable pricing every year, no surprises.
