You went to Dashboard → Billing to save a new card, and instead of a confirmation you got a decline, or a verification window that never finished. Bank verification is one thing to check; incorrect card details or issuer restrictions can also cause a decline.
If your card is declined during first-time signup rather than a saved-card update, see My card is declined at checkout.
Check bank verification
When you save a card, your bank may ask you to verify it before we store it. This extra confirmation step can involve a popup window, a redirect, a code by SMS, or an approval tap in your banking app. Some banks also ask you to install their own verification software first.
If that confirmation step doesn’t complete - the window is blocked, the app approval times out, or the installed software asks for the same thing again - the card may not get saved, and you may see a generic decline. Unfinished verification is one possible cause, not a diagnosis you can make from the decline message alone.
Important: try once or twice, then stop
Here’s the part that isn’t obvious. Repeated attempts in a short window make this worse, not better. After a handful of tries from the same place, card networks and processors start declining on the pattern of attempts itself, regardless of whether your card is fine. At that point every further attempt fails for a brand-new reason, and the original error message stops being useful.
So: give it one attempt, then one more if the first clearly failed for a fixable reason (a blocked popup, for instance). If the second attempt doesn’t take, stop and email us. Don’t work through it ten times - the verification side can start refusing you for a while, and we’ll both have more untangling to do.
Worth trying on your first or second attempt
- Let the verification window open. Turn off popup blockers for the dashboard, and close any extension that blocks redirects or scripts.
- Keep your phone handy. If your bank approves by app or SMS code, the approval often has a short window - have the device unlocked before you submit.
- Try a different browser. If a verification prompt keeps reappearing after you’ve already satisfied it, that’s usually the browser, not the card. A mainstream browser you don’t normally use - with no extensions - is the cleanest test.
- Check the card details character by character. Number, expiry, security code, and the billing address as your bank has it on file. A mismatched billing address is a common quiet decline.
- Try a different card if you have one. If one card’s issuer is blocking the verification step, another one often isn’t.
When to email us
Email support@swarmify.com if the second attempt fails, or straight away if you’d rather not guess. We can check what the payment processor recorded for each attempt. That usually shows whether the problem is the verification step, the card itself, or the retry pattern, though some banks decline without giving a reason.
Include:
- The account email you sign in with
- The last 4 digits of the card you’re trying to add, and roughly when you tried
- The error message you saw, or a screenshot of it
Never email us a full card number, security code, or expiry. We never need them: a new card always goes in through Dashboard → Billing, on your side.
Will my account be affected while this is unresolved?
Not immediately. A failed attempt to add a card doesn’t change the card already on file, and it doesn’t cancel anything. But two things are worth knowing:
- If the card on file expires before you get a new one saved, your next renewal charge will fail.
- If you’re trying to upgrade your plan, email us rather than working on the card alone - plan changes are handled by our team anyway, so we can sort out the card problem and the upgrade in the same thread.
Either way, emailing us gets you there faster than retrying the form. For what you can change yourself versus what we handle, see Manage your plan or billing.
