How to change the width and height of the player with the SmartVideo plugin for WordPress

Updated October 5, 2026

Use the SmartVideo block’s Aspect Ratio setting to choose a preset shape or enter a custom width and height.

If you installed SmartVideo using another method, see the SmartVideo tag options article.

Set a custom width and height

  1. Select the SmartVideo block on your page.
  2. Open Basic options in the block settings.
  3. Set Aspect Ratio to Custom. The Width and Height fields appear only when Custom is selected.
  4. Enter numeric pixel values, such as 800 for Width and 600 for Height. The preview updates to show your changes.

For a preset shape instead, choose an option such as 16:9 (Standard) or 4:3 (Legacy) from Aspect Ratio.

Choose responsive or fixed sizing

Open Advanced options to find the Responsive toggle. New blocks start responsive unless you change Video defaults in SmartVideo > Settings; individual blocks can override that setting. For fixed sizing, turn Responsive off; Width and Height then supply the player’s default pixel dimensions.

  • With Responsive on, the player fits its container while preserving the aspect ratio set by the width and height. For example, 800 by 600 sets a 4:3 shape; it does not force an 800-pixel-wide player. Change the surrounding column or container size to change the player’s displayed size.
  • With Responsive off, the width and height set the player’s pixel dimensions. Presets use fixed sizes of 640 pixels on their longer side (for example, 640 × 360 for 16:9). Check the published page at narrow screen sizes before using fixed dimensions.

The clip below shows older player chrome. Follow the current steps above, including Aspect Ratio > Custom, before entering Width and Height.
