Install SmartVideo on Moodle

Updated August 7, 2025

If you’re using Moodle to deliver online courses and want to stream fast, ad-free videos through SmartVideo, you can easily embed SmartVideo into your Moodle site. Here’s how to get it up and running.

Step 1: Add the SmartVideo Snippet to Your Site

To enable SmartVideo playback, you’ll need to add the SmartVideo JavaScript snippet to the <head> section of your Moodle site.

You can follow Moodle’s guide here:
👉 Header and Footer Editing in Moodle

Paste your SmartVideo embed snippet (from your dashboard) into the header section so it loads on all pages.

Note: If you’re not sure where to find your SmartVideo snippet, log into your Swarmify Dashboard, go to the **Configuration **tab, and copy the code provided.

Step 2: Embed SmartVideo Tags in a Text Block

Once the script is added to your site’s header, you can embed any video using a SmartVideo tag directly in a Moodle Text block.

To do this:

  1. Go to the Moodle course where you want to add your video

  2. Turn editing on

  3. Click Add a block and choose Text and media area

  4. Click the gear icon in the HTML block and choose Configure

  5. Switch to HTML mode and paste your SmartVideo tag into the content area

Example tag:

<smartvideo src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/448062899"
            width="1280" height="720"
            class="swarm-fluid" controls>
</smartvideo>
