How do I know SmartVideo is working?

Updated June 30, 2026

TL;DR: You’ll see the SmartVideo player in place of your original embed, and your view count climbing in your dashboard.

A video can take up to 30 minutes to convert to SmartVideo depending on the length and resolution of the video file (it usually takes way less time than that). While a video is still converting, it keeps playing from its original source — that’s expected, not a failure.

Here’s how to confirm a video has converted:

1. Look at the player. A converted video plays in the SmartVideo player instead of your original YouTube/Vimeo/native embed — it’s visually distinctive, with a frosted-glass floating control bar. Seeing it is the quickest confirmation.

2. Check your dashboard. Views for the video will show up in your SmartVideo dashboard, confirming it’s being delivered by SmartVideo. If you uploaded the video through the SmartVideo Library, its processing status is also visible there.

3. Check devtools (technical). In your browser’s devtools, the player’s container element carries the smartvideo-player class, and the video’s media requests (Network tab) go to Swarmify’s CDN rather than the original source.

If you remember a “Video Acceleration” hover tooltip from an older version of the player — that was retired with the newer glass-skin player design. It hasn’t been replaced by anything else; the checks above are the current way to confirm SmartVideo is working.

You’ll also notice the player snaps to its final size on the very first paint now. Older builds briefly painted at a small default size and then jumped to 16:9 a few hundred milliseconds later, which counted against your page’s layout-shift score (CLS). That jump is gone for embeds with explicit dimensions, fluid embeds, and converted YouTube embeds alike.

**P.S. **If you are using the SmartVideo plugin for WordPress, check to make sure that SmartVideo is enabled in the plugin. When enabled, it will look like this:
