Ad network integration

SmartVideo supports VAST ad tags through Google’s IMA integration. Among current plans, ad-network monetization is included in the Pro plan, not Startup or Growth. AppSumo lifetime deals with five or more redeemed codes also include VAST ad support.

Configure ads in the dashboard

If your site uses the SmartVideo WordPress plugin, skip to Configure ads in WordPress.

1. Open Configuration in your Swarmify dashboard.
2. Expand Ads and enable Insert ads (VAST / VPAID).
3. Paste the VAST ad tag URL from your ad network into Ad tag URL.
4. Copy the Installation script and replace the existing SmartVideo script in your site’s <head>.

The dashboard’s live preview does not run ads. Test the updated script on a page with your embedded video.

Configure ads in WordPress

If you use the SmartVideo WordPress plugin, open SmartVideo in your WordPress admin sidebar, select Settings, and paste your VAST ad tag URL into VAST ads under Advanced. Settings save automatically. Do not also add the dashboard’s installation script to a WordPress site that uses the plugin.

Configure ads manually

Note: if you use the SmartVideo WordPress plugin, configure VAST ads in its Settings tab instead of adding another installation script.

Add plugins.swarmads.adTagUrl to your existing swarmoptions configuration. Keep your other settings and use only one SmartVideo installation script.

This example includes the loader as well as the ad configuration:

Replace YOUR_SWARM_CDN_KEY with your Swarm CDN Key from the dashboard and YOUR_VAST_URL with your ad network’s VAST ad tag URL.

If ads do not load

The ad integration requires Google IMA to load; an ad blocker can prevent this. It also does not initialize ads when the player is using its YouTube playback fallback.
